We’re doing an unscientific survey about the basic clothing needs of kids. So far, this is the list we’ve put together. We’d love your input, what would you add/subtract? We’d also love to know what your kids really have in their closete. So for example, you might say they need three or four pair of shoes, but how many do they really have?
– Jeans or school pants 3-4 pair
– Sweat/yoga pants 2-3
– 6-7 school shirts
– 2-3 sweatshirts/hoodies
– 2-3 seasonal sweaters
– 2-3 pair of pjs
– 7-10 pr of underwear
– 7 pair of sox
– 3 pair of tights
– 2 swimsuits
– 1 pair of dress shoes
– 1 pair of athletic shoes
– 1 rain boot
– 1 pair winter boots (if needed)
– flip flops
– 2 – 3 skirts
– 2 ‘dressy dresses’
– 1 sport jacket
– 1 pair of dress slacks or khakis
– 3 pair of shorts
– 1 winter coat/snow pants/mittens/hat/scarf
– 1 light spring/fall coat
– 1 rain slicker
– tee shirts (assorted/graphic/white/simple)

When my daughter was in school, I liked to have undershirts to go under the uniform shirt. For the shoes, I would have to add crocs, they offer a little more protection than flip flops and are perfect for playing outside all day. We have tons of shoes in our house, but with a five year old growing like a weed most of them dont fit anymore. Definitely have to have a pair of white sandals to go with all the spring/summer dresses though. And a pair of flats for the fall/winter. And while I agree that you only need one big jacket and a couple of hoodies, our daughter has several spring/fall hoodies and jackets, and two big jackets.
