In our book, Bitches on a Budget, we write:

  • Look  for pick-your-own opportunities. Autumn apple-picking should be an annual family event. Come home red-cheeked and make pies, applesauce, or just bite into fresh crispy apples. Whether it’s strawberry or pole beans, farmers often open their fields and the pricing is amazing when you supply the labor.

So today we took our own advice and went to our local farm, which was having a ‘sale’ on pick your own tomatoes.  Fifty-five pounds later — yes, 55 big heavy pounds , we’re cooking.

Our question is: what would you do with fifty-five pounds of fresh, ripe, yummy tomatoes?
